dryer vent cleaning

Should I Hire A Professional?

    Should I Hire A Pro?

Dryer vent cleaning is rather straight forward – you have a clothes dryer, a transition hose, the vent that typically goes through your wall, and then an exterior vent cap. The warm air from the clothes dryer gets pushed through the vent and exits the house out of the wall vent. Cleaning the vent is a rather easy process, in most cases. Using a brush and rod kit, you need to agitate the lint and debris off of the walls of the vent. Simply using air from say a leaf blower, will not be enough to dislodge any lint that is stuck on the inside of the vent.

While this sounds pretty easy, there are almost always nuances in every home we enter. Mismatched materials, multiple code violations, improper routing, and so much more. Most jobs we complete require some sort of critical thinking to figure out the best approach. While you may be able to do a “good enough” job, it may not be the best job. We can best equate it to an oil change for your car. Is it easy to do it yourself from home and can you save money – yes! Will you take the extra time to rotate your tires, check fluid levels, and do a multi-point inspection to see if there are any other issues – maybe not.

    Are You Up To Code?

Do you know what the code says about dryer vents? Do you know how long they can be? Do you know how many feet each 90 degree elbow adds to the overall length? Do you know what materials can be used? Do you know how long screws can enter into the vent? If not, hiring a professional may be in order!

While the code doesn’t change every week or even every month, there are some changes that come about that are important to be aware of. Code changes are intended to help keep home owners safe and will help to keep dryers running more efficiently. Staying up to date is the best way to keep you safe. If you have questions at any point in time, however, we’d be happy to help!

    Are You Generally Handy?

If you are rather handy, cleaning out your dryer vent yourself may not be too daunting of a task. It may be done in a quick hour or two on a day off or on the weekend. However, if you lack handyman or handywoman skills, you may have a bit more trouble with this job. While it does not typically require any rare tools, there are certainly some that make the job easier. Also, you may not have all materials you need on hand. Such materials and products include UL listed metal tape, hose clamps, 4″ rigid duct, and exterior wall vents. There are just some of the few things we typically use on every single installation and cleaning.

You can get many of these products from the big box hardware stores, however, they may not be the same quality as the materials we use. Our goal is to provide the best experience possible, and that starts with the highest quality materials and equipment to get the job done right.

    Do You Value Convience?
